‘We rebuilt the bow, we rebuilt the stern, we rebuilt the bathroom, we rebuilt the floors,’ he said, his emotions spilling over.
The episode comes nearly two months after the announcement of cast member Nick Mavar’s death from a ‘medical emergency’ at the age of 59.
He appeared in 98 episodes of Deadliest Catch from 2005 to 2021, a series that showcases the lives of crab fishermen in the Bering Sea.
Mavar departed from the show after experiencing a ruptured appendix during a December 2020 trip, an event that was captured in one of his last episodes.
Subsequently, he filed a lawsuit against Captain Sig Hansen and his wife, June, alleging that he faced delays in obtaining necessary medical treatment during the pandemic, seeking $1 million in damages.
Brossard and Mavar are not the first stars from Deadliest Catch to have died unexpectedly.
In August 2020, Mahlon Reyes passed away at the age of 38 due to a heart attack. Captain Blake Painter was found dead in his home in Astoria, Oregon, also at 38, in 2018.
Captain Tony Lara died of a heart attack in his sleep in South Dakota in 2015, while Captain Phil Harris succumbed to a heart attack in Alaska at the age of 53 after suffering a stroke in 2010.
In 2011, deckhand Justin Tennison was found dead in his hotel room in Alaska at 33, with his death attributed to complications from sleep apnea, leading to speculation about a ‘curse’ surrounding the show, according to ABC News.
