‘Deadliest Catch’ Captain Keith Colburn Is Facing A Serious Health Issue
No captain ever wants to give up his ship duties, but unfortunately, Deadliest Catch‘s Keith Colburn has to for some time. On a recent episode of the show, Colburn revealed that he will not be bairdi crab fishing this time around because of a serious bacterial infection in his spine, Yahoo! reports. The infection, osteomyelitis, causes inflammation to the bone, and Colburn explains in blunt terms that his two vertebrae look like someone poured battery acid on them. Yikes. “My back is all f*cked up,” he says to his crew.
To fight off the disease, he must inject antibiotics intravenously everyday and lay off the labor. Obviously, the job of captaining a fishing vessel is extremely grueling, so with Colburn out of commission, his duties must be entirely passed on to someone else.
Well aware of this, Colburn appoints his brother, Monte Colburn a.k.a “Mouse” as new captain of the Wizard. Now, the huge undertaking of bringing in 155,000 pounds of bairdi crab in just one week falls on Monte’s shoulders.
“You know, my brother’s health, critical as it is, it’s not something I’m really in the position to even think about,” Monte says. “These guys are counting on me to go out and fill those tanks with crab, and it ain’t going to be easy.”
Deadliest Catch fans were already shaken up when fisherman Blake Painter, who starred on the Discovery Channel show during season three, was found dead earlier this year.
