Deadliest Catch’s Jake Anderson bounces back hunting $750k crab after devastating loss
Deadliest Catch season 20 made no mistake in kicking off with some drama-filled episodes this summer. Sig Hansen, ‘Wild’ Bill Wichrowski, and Jake Anderson are some familiar faces returning to the show. They may be seasoned vets in their field, but challenges keep on coming for the captains.
Despite any setbacks, Jake proves he still has what it takes by hauling $750,000 worth of crab from the ocean. The Discovery Channel star had his lifelong boat, The F/V Saga, ripped away from him. But, now, it seems he’s getting to grips with life on the Titan Explorer.
Deadliest Catch waved goodbye to The Saga
From Deadliest Catch seasons 11 to 19, Jake Anderson took the helm of the F/V Saga.
Sadly, the boat was torn away from him, and he now has a new boat in season 20.
Jake said he lost the Saga due to “financial reasons.”
“Before I was getting ready to go red crab fishing, I found out my partner, with all due respect to legal things going on, we don’t know what he did,” he told TV Insider.
Discovery star’s $750k crab hunt
During Deadliest Catch season 20, Jake hops off the Northwestern with Sig and heads over to take over his new ship, the Titan Explorer.
He says he’s “done it all” in his career” including being a deckhand, and an engineer. But now is his time to start over as the captain of a new boat.
The Titan Explorer reaches 125ft in length. It has twice the carrying capacity and double the speed of Jake’s old boat.
Enjoying the “new toys” aboard his ship, Jake heads out to haul $750k worth of red crab.
The season gets off to a great start for Jake. His team hauls more and more crab from the ocean. He didn’t want to get “too excited” but celebrates with the crew members as they bring more pots onto the boat.
Jake says: “I put the pedal to the metal, and it’s paying off over here. I’m back!”
170 Mi Northeast of Dutch Harbor on the Time [Music] Bandit I’m going to catch a lot of crab today. Captain Jonathan Hillstrand has been pulling big numbers for the past 12 hours.
You like that ? Yeah, yeah, yeah, this is a hot spot, dude. Having a partner with Keith might have been the best thing ever happened to me. A risky alliance with the wizard is paying big dividends.
We got the wizard right in front of us, got 72, 72 app. I’m thinking this has been a pretty good situation on the wizard. You guys are probably going to be out of here pretty quick. I got one pot left to haul. I’m out of here, man.
Captain Keith curn puts a record season in the books. Good job, man, you slammed it, man, you’re a hero, good job. Yeah, no, I’m feeling pretty good about the season. All right guys, this is the pot you’ve been looking for coming up.
Nice last of our te crab 2014 looking, brother. There you go, yeah, that’s a sweet looking pot right there. This is it, this is the one we’ve been waiting for. All right guys, hey good job, good season.
Last year it was about nine and a half days from the time we left the dock till the time we got back to the dock. Nice. This year it’s going to be under six. Right on, guys, good job. I’m just drifting here. Okay, Road Runner.
Hey John, I left a little surprise for you on this next bag set up you’re pulling up on, so have the guys get that present to you. Okay, okay, got you. Oh, that’s cool. Their table’s full of crab too [Laughter]. Right on, yeah, look at that big ass crab. It’s always good to see smiling faces.
I don’t know what it is, it’s mail. There you go, Road Runner and Coyote, good working with you, Road Runner. Oh, he gave us a St. Christopher coin or something, something cool, something sort of piratical. He gave us a couple of them. Wow, working in Harmony and pray for us. That’s pretty cool. He’s a pretty cool dude once you get to know him. You get to get around the hard-nosed guy. Yeah, go ahead, go ahead. Yeah, yeah, he’s got a hard heart there beating on the [wizard.
Check it out, Captain Keith’s hot streak blazes on up. Give, we need more, 89, 89, oops, oops, oops. As the night wears [Music] on, the red king crab continue to flow. And I can do that ’cause I’m part of Indian. Yeah, couple more strings, man, couple more strings like this and we’ll be done.
It’s a good time here. I’m having a good time working with John. He’s the kind of guy you want to work with. I’m circling on the wagon train, mother. I’m a HW coming over another load right here. 99, 98, now we’re gone. Now we can call a cry, get all our gear on this. We’re working through the night
Now sorry about the no sleep. Yeah, we’re doing pretty good. Got you covered, buddy. All right, right on. 98 crab in 11 hours. I was shaking, dude. Thank you, you’re the one that s me here. I’m shaking, dude. Right on, I’m on my way, man. Blast them out there. Woohoo
So a lot has changed in 24 hours. Yesterday I was sort of going oh no, then some pretty cool stuff happened today. Keith did not screw me over. Keith sent me. Guys like us get off to a bad start, doesn’t mean a thing, that’s what that means. Knock on wood. Now really sort of weary of the alliance, but I know I could trust him. Probably the best Alliance ever formed. The League of Justice is nothing compared to us.
Woah, lots of prow, baby, lots of prows 125, 125, yowa, woo hey, wow, eight, oh no wonder that hopper’s stuffed. You throw 60-70 crab in there real fast and they’re just going to pack in there like that. Wow, that’s phenomenal fishing.
I’ll be honest, I think I’m going to have more fun this season than I’ve had in a long time. Whatever works, works, and right now it’s working .
