Jonathan Hillstrand was busy working away on Deadliest Catch during a busy crabbing season. A glimpse of a blue animal caught his eye, and to his shock, he realised they were helping him.

Deadliest Catch follows fishermen on the Bering Sea as they fight to collect as many crabs as possible. Usually, the crew consists of a captain and several deckhands, but recently, a dolphin joined them.

After struggling to locate the quantity of red king crab they were after, Jonathan Hillstrand and his team come across a rare school of dolphins on Deadliest Catch, who lead them to a crab-fishing hotspot.

A whopping 3,000 dolphins were there to applaud and put on a show for the Time Bandit crew. Deckhand boss, Freddy, claims their presence is a “pretty good sign” there’s a lot of crabs nearby.

The crew decide to follow the dolphin school, who “found them a miracle”. The white-sided dolphins are considered rare and have been called “divine intervention” by the captain.

First time in over 45 years

Captain Hillstrand said he’s never seen so many dolphins in his whole life at sea. He called the moment “amazing” while a fellow crew member said they’ve “never seen this many in 45 years.”

Jonathan knows they’re “trying to tell us something” and tells cameras: “I’ve never seen anything like this, ever. This is crazy,” before setting off 60 pods in hopes to gather a lot of huge crabs.

With just 72 hours until they offload, they sail the Alaskan king crab fishing grounds and place all of their hope in the animals. Before long, they’re collecting massive crabs – thanks to the dolphins!

“God loves us. We got us some angels flying behind this boat,” the captain gladly claims as the first pot brings in 41 gigantic crabs. They say the dolphins “led them to the promised land”.
