Deadliest Catch’s Captain Sig ‘teaches Jake a lesson’ – ‘He’s gonna hate this’
Some of the Deadliest Catch captains have been working together for years. Sig Hansen has been scouring the Bering Sea for crab since the show’s pilot episode. Now, he’s back for season 20 once again. This year, Sig is hauling crab with his adult daughter, Mandy Hansen. Captain Jake Anderson is also working this season and he enlists Sig’s help when he loses his boat.
While Sig remains aboard the Northwestern in season 20, his co-star Jake Anderson had his boat ripped away from him. Now, Jake is adjusting to a new life aboard the Titan Explorer. The fishing boat captain appears to have taken things a step too far with Sig this season, however. As the OG of Deadliest Catch says he needs to “teach him a lesson.”
Sig ‘teaches Jake a lesson’
During season 20 episode 5, Jake Anderson tells cameras if he “can’t catch crab efficiently” aboard The Titan Explorer, he’ll be “out of a job pretty quickly.”
There’s a lot riding on the Discovery Channel star’s season. But, when Sig Hansen finds out some information regarding Jake, he seeks revenge.
Sig and Jake communicate about the whereabouts of crab as Jake tells his co-star: “I’m looking at this information I got, I really think they’re going south. The trends that I’m looking at remind me of like 2007… and then when you factor in the water temperature, I’m just really thinking south.”
Sig frowns during the telephone call and tells Jake: “I don’t know where you’re getting your information from but 2006 or 2007, that’s a long time ago.”
He later thinks the conversation with Jake was “fishy” and a crew member suggests Jake could’ve gone through the captain’s old charts.
After looking at the search history, Sig says he “feels like he’s been violated” adding: “We’ve got to teach this guy a lesson.”
Captain ‘messes’ with Jake
After finding out Jake had looked at his old charts, Sig’s crew member asks: “You wanna take his crab?”
But Sig says: “There’s not going to be any crab in those pots.”
He adds: “We’re definitely going to mess with him. You know what would get under his skin even more? Setting it on some meat… that’s the ‘I told you so’.”
Sig’s planned to pull 20 of Jake’s pots and move them 50 miles north.
He laughs: “He is going to hate this… this should be fun.”
Jake later realizes the pots are gone before asking: “Did he touch my gear?”
He says: “Gotta be something he did… that’s kind of screwed up.”
Jake then calls Sig and asks where his pots are before Sig responds: “Think of it like a treasure hunt…” and hangs up.
The Titan Explorer captain calls Sig’s behavior “obnoxious” and “child-like” before following his coordinates to the first pot.
The first pot is “loaded” with crab, which quickly changes Jake’s mood. Sig jokes: “Don’t forget to send a thank you gift, a bottle of vodka…”
