Deadliest Catch captain’s ‘nervous’ kid takes charge as huge waves crash over crew
“Is she a deckhand, or is she the Captain’s kid?” Mandy Hansen joining the Northwestern crew as a greenhorn rubs some of the other crab fishermen up the wrong way in a Deadliest Catch episode. Sig is keen for his daughter to take the wheel before admitted she seems “nervous” while in charge.
Discovery Channel‘s Deadliest Catch is no joke when it comes to the treacherous conditions the crew has to work in. Jake Anderson feels Mandy is getting special treatment as she “sleeps in” and “acts like she’s on vacation” while getting some first-hand experience aboard the famous fishing vessel.
Sig’s crew are ‘down a woman’
During Deadliest Catch, Captain Sig Hansen and his crew are in the middle of a 25-pot string.
Though their crab fishing attempts prove fruitful, some of the cast members notice one of the team isn’t pulling their weight.
One Deadliest Catch star, Jake Anderson, says: “I have no idea where Mandy is, honestly.”
Later in the episode, the crew are miffed when they find out the Captain’s 18-year-old daughter is taking a nap.
Deadliest Catch star is ‘speechless’
Speaking to cameras amidst the tough fishing conditions, Jake adds: “A greenhorn sleeping during this string, I don’t even know what to say, because it would never happen, it’s unacceptable.”
He asks Mandy if she was planning on coming out to fish or if she’d “just lay there.”
The deckhand then tells Sig: “I found your kid sleeping in her bunk.”
The Northwestern‘s captain tells his crew it’s “not funny” how the crew “lit her up” by lighting a flame near Mandy’s bed to wake her up. He asks: “Did you burn her?”
Mandy is ‘nervous’ taking the wheel
Captain Sig is determined to keep the number of crabs coming in despite facing some difficult weather conditions.
He battles an artic squall during the episode and says he had a “knot in his stomach” because he “has the kid on board.”
Although the conditions appear pretty wild during the Deadliest Catch episode, Mandy opts for some training during the rough seas.
Sig calls his daughter inside the ship and says: “As a dad you want to protect them, you know?”
The Captain coaches Mandy in being in charge of the boat which worries some cast members.
Jake says the move is “unnecessary” given the harsh weather.
More say Sig should’ve taught her to haul pots “on a nice day,” before huge waves wash over the Northwestern and its crew.
Mandy says: “I don’t know what the hell I’m doing,” before her dad says: “You were nervous, weren’t you?”
