The death of Deadliest Catch’s former cast member Larry Hendricks has been confirmed. The proud father and retired captain is missed by many on the Discovery Channel after his season 1 debut.

Larry Hendricks featured in Deadliest Catch season 1 as the captain of the F/V Sea Star. He spent a long career on the Bering Sea as a commercial fisherman before he sadly died on January 25, 2024.

Death of Deadliest Catch star Larry

Larry from Deadliest Catch sadly died on January 25, 2024, at the age of 70. He appeared as the captain of the F/V Sea Star in Deadliest Catch season 1 before retiring from his job at sea.

Born in Seattle and raised in Ballard, Larry has been described as a “creative thinker who liked to have a good time” on his obituary, and lived across Las Vegas and Thailand during his retirement.

Larry kept busy with travel throughout the United States, as well as tinkered in his garage, watched football and had fun. Consistent with his wishes, his remains will be scattered at sea.

Larry Hendricks was a ‘proud father’

Larry was a proud father to his children, as per his obituary, and is survived by his son, Robert, and daughter, Lauren, grandsons, Henry and Jeffrey, sister Linda, and siblings Dave, Electa, and Alice.

He is also survived by four former wives and countless other family and friends.

Larry is remembered for using the Sea Star as a chase boat for several years after leaving the Discovery Channel show.

The late fisherman then stopped running the Sea Star as a chase boat after season 5, before the boat was sold several years ago. He once made a video for the network on how crab pots work that fans love.

Tributes pour in for Discovery star

Deadliest Catch fans everywhere are heartbroken over Larry’s death. Many fans and loved ones have taken to Reddit and social media to share their condolences.

One fan wrote: “Damn I loved Larry. I loved him in the pilot show and always seemed like a nice and genuine person on the show. RIP to an underrated fixture of the show.”

Another penned: “Sorry to be reading this, loved captain Larry and his crew on series one. Rip,” while a fellow fan described Larry as “such an intelligent, well-spoken captain”.
