‘1000-lb Sisters’ Star Tammy Slaton Goes House Hunting—See Inside the ‘Badass’ Run-Down Rental
TLC star Tammy Slaton is navigating another major loss on her reality series, “1000-lb Sisters.” After dropping 500 pounds and mourning the death of her husband, she now needs a new place to live after getting kicked out of her latest home.
The show, which premiered its sixth season earlier this month, follows Slaton and her sister Amy Slaton on their weight loss journeys. The two once weighed more than 1,000 pounds combined and have since undergone bariatric surgery.
After spending 14 months in a weight-loss rehab facility, Tammy returned to Dixon, KY, and moved into a rental property owned by another one of her siblings, Amanda Halterman. But one too many explosive fights later, Halterman told Tammy on the show’s season premiere to pack her bags.
The 38-year-old has been staying with her brother Chris Combs and sister-in-law Brittany Combs ever since and is finally ready to begin house hunting.
In a preview clip of the upcoming episode, “War and Peas,” that was shared with Realtor.com®, Chris and Brittany bring Tammy by a potential property and ask her to keep an open mind about the place.
In the kitchen, there’s a large patch of pulled-up linoleum tile, deteriorating wooden window panes, and a dusty countertop with a double sink. An island with a tile top and wooden base is covered in clutter, including an old troll doll, and there’s a significant area of the ceiling that remains unfinished.
Tammy’s reaction to the necessary repairs reveals she’s under a time crunch.
“I hope Chris can finish everything in 30 days,” she says. “But I don’t know much about, like, construction. It’s like speaking Chinese to me or a different language because I don’t understand.”
They continue the house tour and take a closer look at the kitchen’s ash-toned wainscoting, which is topped by red chair rail molding. Window and door casings are painted light blue, while the interior of a door belonging to a built-in bar is goldenrod.
Chris is excited by the bar feature and tells Tammy, “Here’s the kitchen with a bar and a cabinet. And the cool thing is, is it’s not too tall because you can reach it.”
Tammy immediately loves the built-in bar area. She describes it as “badass” and starts thinking about how she’ll fill it.
“I can put a small air fryer or a toaster oven and then the microwave there,” she muses. But mostly, she’s “just thankful to have a place offered that has a roof and stable foundation.”
Meanwhile, they move back into what appears to be a living room with off-white walls, old carpet, basic trim, and baseboards. Brittany makes it clear she is less than impressed by the kitchen’s floor plan.
Brittany suggests Chris take out the “whole bar” since “it’s set up dumb where you can’t see.” She thinks the whole thing is an “eyesore” and the area would be better suited for a table.
Chris pushes back immediately, saying, “It’s set up to have a little coffee maker on the backside.”
He agrees that kitchen renovations “might be an option down the road … but not right now” since “the big thing is getting it livable for Tammy.”
For her part, Tammy is fine with the floor plan: “I like the layout. I think it would be a suitable place for me,” she says.
It’s clear she’s ready to move forward with her move and doesn’t want to waste time with any additional drama.
“I just don’t want them to fight because of it, because they’re doing this in such a short time and trying to hurry up,” she explains.
