‘1000-Lb Sisters’ Amy Slaton’s Mental Breakdown Exploited By TLC?
It has been reported that friends and family close to Amy Slaton blame TLC for the 1000-Lb. Sisters star’s mental decline in recent years. They allege that the cameras being present amplified Amy’s demons. Now, things are coming to a head following the TLC star’s arrest in early September and fans are worried for her well-being. Continue reading to see what they are saying.
Amy Slaton’s Arrest Brings Issues To Light
A source recently told In Touch Weekly that Amy Slaton started struggling with a number of different problems since she first appeared on television. They essentially said that the cameras and fame magnified issues, like her bipolar disorder. Over time, it became too much for her to handle.
“Now drugs are complicating things,” the insider told the publication, referring to Amy’s recent arrest. As we previously reported, the TLC star was brought into police custody after authorities were called to Safari Park in Tennessee.
An employee called 911 to report a guest being bitten by a camel. However, when police arrived, they said there were suspicious smells coming from Amy’s car. Upon further investigation, they found her to be in possession of Schedule I and Schedule IV drugs.
Amy’s two young children were also in the car, along with her friend Brian Lovvorn. She was charged with drug possession and child endangerment. This seems to be all of Amy’s problems coming to a head.
“Everyone in Amy’s life is petrified she’ll be six feet under unless something drastic happens,” the source told In Touch. “It does look very dark and deadly.” Now, there are rumors that they are working to stage an intervention for Amy Slaton.
Fans Wonder About The Future Of The Show
Fans are wondering if 1000-Lb. Sisters will be canceled after Season 6 due to the family blaming TLC for exacerbating Amy’s problems. Several viewers took to Reddit to discuss the future of the show and Amy Slaton’s mental health.
- “That’s not how bipolar works. Unless she’s been having episodes and unmedicated,” one fan pointed out. “The family refuses to take accountability for anything of course they would blame somebody/something else.”
- A second person agreed, “What a dysfunctional family they can just blame everyone for her down fall she doesn’t take responsibility for anything.”
- Another person laughed, “That family is a mess and the show should be cancelled. It’s not even entertaining. The brother calling them bitches the sisters physically fighting but it’s TLC fault not theirs.”
- “No doubt having a camera in front of her didn’t help but at some point, the individual and family members have to take accountability for the part they played in pushing the patient over the edge,” yet another fan chimed in.
Some fans talked about how TLC has been tied to a number of families who have crumbled after they started filming. “They help cover stuff up,” one Reddit user suggested. Could Amy Slaton have had these problems anyway? Absolutely, but the presence of cameras and her increasing fame probably didn’t help.
When it comes to the show, TLC confirmed that 1000-Lb. Sisters would return for Season 6. It premieres on October 8 at 9 p.m. EST.
