Deadliest Catch’s Wild Bill abandons Summer Bay for urgent medical treatment

Life is hard for the Deadliest Catch cast members, but long-running captain, Wild Bill Wichrowski has even more on his plate this season as he battles cancer. During season 20 episode 11, the crab fishing pro gives fans an update on his health.

Wild Bill reveals on the Discovery Channel show that it’s time for him to “go under the knife.” The Deadliest Catch star tells viewers how the situation “sucks” for him. But, by opting for surgery, he can remove the cancer and “continue to go on with life.”

Wild Bill’s cancer update

Well wishes and prayers are being sent Wild Bill’s way this summer as fans see him battling cancer during Deadliest Catch season 20.

The Summer Bay captain leaves his ship behind and heads back home to “go under the knife.”

Bill has to leave the crabbing season as he requires surgery to remove cancer from his body.

He says: “I’d like to get rid of the cancer and continue to go on with life… they actually plant a piece of radioactive material in each spot so it destroys it.”

Bill left the 2023 fall season for “urgent treatment of adenocarcinoma of the prostate.”

He left the Summer Bay in the hands of Landon Cheney, 35. Speaking of the decision, he tells the cameras: “I couldn’t have Landon be much more ready to do this… I think he’s ready, I guess we’ll see how it goes.”

Deadliest Catch star’s support system

As Landon takes the helm of the Summer Bay, Wild Bill takes to Facebook to share he’s being supported in his cancer battle by loved ones.

The Discovery star shares a snap of himself alongside his daughter and writes: “She keeps me inline. Put up with a lot last few months.”

Although Wild Bill doesn’t take to social media regularly, many of his fans take to the comments to send him well wishes.

One writes: “Hope your treatments are going well and you’re tolerating them well. Thoughts and prayers for the best outcome.”

This August, he shares he’s been going for “afternoon drives” as well as enjoying “fresh and amazing food.”
