Deadliest Catch followed fifth generation fisherman Jake’s antics as the captain of the F/V Saga in 2015. He immediately set about rebuilding the boat from the ground level up but by 2024, it was gone.

Jake Anderson’s loses F/V Saga
Jake Anderson lost the F/V Saga after owning it for nine years. With his life savings, he invested in the Saga as his new boat with another co-owner. Unfortunately, financial problems meant he lost it.
The issues were caused by his partner, he told TV Insider, “Before I was getting ready to go red crab fishing, I found out my partner, with all due respect to legal things going on, we don’t know what he did.”
After investing everything including his kids’ college fund, he found a lock and repossession note on the F/V Saga, just before Jake planned to bring in $6 million pay days on the Bering Sea.
Deadliest Catch star gets new boat
Jake’s new boat is the F/V Titan Explorer, which was formerly F/V Prowler. Seven years ago, the boat was spotted on a tour of Wild Bill’s boat, Summer Bay, next to the F/V Kodiak.
So although he lost everything on season 20 of the Discovery Channel series, he came back fighting! In 2023, the Saga was put up for sale, before he bought and became captain of a new crab fishing vessel.
“I went from having the most King Crab to catch and having a nice platform I built it with my own two hands to losing it all over a weekend,” Anderson told TV Insider.
Co-star reached out to Jake
Captain Sig Hansen reached out to Jake after his loss. Anderson said, “Of course, Sig is going to reach out because we are close. As fishermen and fisherwomen, the camaraderie is something special.”
“It’s a very honourable profession. Not just for Sig, but I think any one of us would do that for each other, even if we were an enemy,” he revealed, adding that he didn’t expect Sig to take him in.
Anderson continued, “For Sig, we both knew we’d had a tumultuous relationship. Without my boat, I’m not a threat to him anymore. I can only be an asset. I think he was happy to have some of his team back.”
