Despite being nearly immobile, Mark was determined to shed weight. The My 600-lb Life star followed Dr. Now’s weight loss regimens and eventually dropped 97 pounds. He was eventually approved for bariatric surgery. However, Mark opted to lose weight more naturally, adding that the surgery felt like cheating. He began riding a bicycle when he returned home and also found a home job. By the end of his episode, he dropped 137 pounds, bringing his weight down to 578 lbs.
Mark’s Shocking 2024 Weight Loss Update
Mark Rutland recently took to Instagram to share good and bad news amid his weight loss journey. According to the My 600-lb Life star, the good news is that after six weeks of BCG treatments, he should be “good to go.” But he was told there was a shortage of BCG supply, which could affect his treatment process.
BCG treatment is a treatment to eliminate cancer cells inside a person’s bladder without hurting the body. Mark then said there was a second option if the shortage of BCG supply continued. They would take his bladder, but he’s not ready to give it up. “The plan going forward is for regular chemo and radiation to slow down the cancer and by some time until BCG becomes available,” he added.

Despite his current health condition, Mark has already made significant progress on his body. In August 2023, the My 600-lb Life star shared his first full-body photo. According to him, he had already lost 300 pounds in the picture, and it seems he had lost much more today. Unfortunately, Mark Rutland has yet to share new full-body photos of him as he focuses more on his cancer treatment.
