1000-Lb Sisters’ Amy Slaton Finally Reveals The Real Reason Behind Her Incredible Weight Loss In New Season

1000-Lb Sisters star Amy Slaton doesn’t think the real reason for her weight loss was her bariatric surgery. Amy and her sister Tammy Slaton are stars of the reality TV show which began documenting their journeys when their weights reached a combined 1000 plus pounds. Amy wished to do away with her health issues and become a mom, so she worked hard towards getting approved for gastric bypass surgery in 2019 through her doctor’s prescribed diet and exercise regimen. Amy was able to lose 136 pounds by sticking to her goals.

1000-Lb Sisters lead Amy Slaton is shocked to know how much weight she has lost since she last weighed herself.

A preview clip for the new episode of 1000-Lb Sisters by ET has Amy visiting Dr. Eric Smith with her entire family, including Tammy, Chris Combs, Amanda Halterman, and Misty Slaton. Dr. Smith, who helped Tammy lose 420 pounds through diet, exercise, and bariatric surgery, tells Amy that he’s never seen him as a doctor before. Amy says she likes him as a person and adds that she appreciates him because he saved her family’s life. Amy was looking for a doctor she could get access to and also wanted to discuss her skin removal.

“Hell, all you need to lose weight is two toddlers and a divorce.”

A throwback clip from four years ago shows Amy being weighed on an industrial scale at a junkyard. It flashes Amy’s weight as 406 pounds, and she reveals she had last weighed herself a year ago. Amy had weighed 281 pounds when she met Dr. Proctor and hopes she’s lost more since then. She is surprised that she has dropped 44 pounds. Amy’s proud of herself for having lost 44 pounds when Dr. Smith tells her she weighs 237 pounds. Amy laughs that all she needed to lose 44 pounds was to have two kids and a split.

Amy’s joke doesn’t fall flat because she has indeed gone through a lot in the past year or so amid her split from Michael Halterman and having to look after her sons. Amy and Michael separated less than four years after they married in 2019. It was Michael who filed for divorce in March 2023. Amy spoke about how Michael was not supportive and his lack of contribution as a husband and father led to their split. Amy expected Michael to show her love and kindness, especially after they had two kids. She even accused him of alleged mental abuse.

Amy was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, depression, and acute stress disorder. She said she had PTSD from everything that was going on during her split with Michael. Amy never wanted to seek help, but once she started therapy, she started feeling happier. She had hit pause on her weight-loss journey, but Amy kept losing weight, and as she suggests, it could have been from the stress of the divorce and from running after Gage and Glenn. However, Amy seems to be dealing with issues at the moment that may have led her to rely on drugs.

Our Take On Amy Blaming Her Weight Loss On Her Divorce

Amy Needs To Take Responsibility For Her Actions

Amy is being called an irresponsible mother, which was never something she wanted. She was recently arrested at a Tennessee zoo and was facing drug and child endangerment charges after being bitten by a camel. Amy was with a man and her kids were present with her in the van where suspicious odors were coming from. It has been a difficult time for Amy, but her recent interest in dating could be taking a toll on her responsibilities as a mom. Amy can’t keep blaming her divorce for everything, especially since she needs to clean up her act soon.
