1000-lb Sisters: Tammy Slaton Would Need to Go Through 5 Surgeries and Spend $85,000 After Losing Over 500 lbs to Get Rid of Her Excess Skin
1000-lb Sisters’ Tammy Slaton considers skin removal surgery after losing 500 lbs, but faces hefty $85,000 price tag and significant health risks.
Reality TV shows are not just a means of entertainment but often offer a grueling lens into the lives of people we might otherwise ignore or belittle. TLC’s 1000-lb Sisters is just an example of that, offering a deep insight into the lives of sisters Amy Salton-Halterman and Tammy Slaton and their weight loss attempts.
Running since 2020, the sixth season of the show is all set to premiere in a few days and it will focus on Tammy’s weight loss journey and her attempts at removing the excessive skin left via surgery, a task that would require a bank to accomplish.
1000-lb Sisters’ Tammy Slaton to Get Skin Removal Surgery
When Tammy Slaton first made it to our TV screens, she wanted to lose weight but wasn’t willing to put in the effort. However by the time season 5 came about, the 1000-lb Sisters star had treated her food addiction, and received bariatric surgery, losing about 500 lb weight.
Now being able to walk unassisted, Tammy has also dropped two dress sizes down. However, her weight loss has left her with excessive loose skin, which often happens due to drastic weight loss in a short period of time.
While she has enjoyed the journey and is looking forward to a new life, Tammy wants to get all the excessive skin removed. In the trailer for season 6 of the show by TLC, it showed Tammy visiting a doctor to get her excessive skin removed.
Although it remains to be seen if she will even get approved for the surgery, it will take at least 5 surgeries and a shocking $85,000 for the procedure. Despite being a television star, the figure is huge and Tammy might not end up getting her dream of getting the excessive skin removed after all.
1000-lb Sisters’ Tammy Slaton’s Skin Removal Surgery is a Big Risk
Getting skin removal surgery is not an easy and complicated procedure. Aside from its huge cost, the surgery, although effective, poses significant risks. Given Tammy Slaton’s weight loss and the amount of loose skin she has, it would take about 5 separate hours-long surgeries.
While the skin removal surgery would help her immensely in feeling comfortable in her skin and making her skin more convenient, the risks are still huge. Aside from certain health complications, the procedure poses risks of Tammy losing skin sensation, blood clots, bleeding, bruising, and scarring
Furthermore, healing from the surgery would potentially keep Tammy Slaton on bed rest or unable to engage in physical activity. With such an astronomically high cost and serious risks, only time will tell whether the television star will go through with the procedure or not.
1000-lb Sisters season 6 premieres October 8 at 9 PM EDT on TLC.
