Officers Were Concerned About The Kids In The Car

On Monday, the Crocket County Sherriff’s Department reported that they brought Amy Slaton Halterman into custody. The police department received a call from an employee of the Safari Park drive-through zoo about a patron being bit by a camel.

That individual was none other than Amy Slaton herself. When the deputies responded to the call, they reported smelling a suspicious odor coming from the vehicle, thought to be marijuana. Upon searching the car, they allegedly found magic mushrooms and weed.

However, that wasn’t the officers’s main concern. “Our officer’s concern [was] not only the possession of the illegal drugs – what we believe to be mushrooms – you got two children that are in the vehicle with you,” said Stephen Sutton from the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department. “Who’s under the influence? What exactly’s going on?”

This led to the arrest of Amy Slaton and her friend, Brian Lovvorn. The children in the car, Amy’s sons, were taken into custody and released to a family member. It has since been reported that Amy’s sister Tammy Slaton picked the kids up.

Amy reportedly received medical care for the camel bite before she was arrested by authorities.

Amy Slaton Pleaded Not Guilty To All Charges

On Tuesday, both Amy and Brian were released from Crockett County Jail on a $10,000 bond each. Amy’s brother Chris Combs reportedly bailed them out. As they left the jail, they were spotted holding hands. They returned on Thursday morning to appear in court to submit pleas.

The TLC star pleaded not guilty to the drug and child endangerment charges on Thursday morning. As she entered the courtroom, a woman claiming to be Amy Slaton’s sister tried to block cameras.

Her charges included illegal possession of Schedule I, illegal possession of Schedule VI, and two counts of child endangerment under eight years old. Brian Lovvorn, who is facing the same charges, also pleaded not guilty.

The pair are due to appear in court again on November 7. Because the charges they are facing are felonies, a judge will determine if the case will be bound over to a grand jury.

Since her arrest, it has also been reported that Amy Slaton is being investigated by the Department of Children’s Services. Amy’s sons, Gage, 4, and Glenn, 2, were in the car at the time of her arrest.

The 1000-Lb. Sisters star recently divorced her ex-husband Michael Halterman and they share custody of the kids. It is not clear how her arrest will impact the current custody agreement.
