When the unscripted series premiered in 2020, Amy weighed over 400 pounds and was desperate to lose weight. She wanted to have children and knew she was too big to have a healthy pregnancy. After having bariatric surgery, Amy lost a significant amount of weight and went on to have two healthy little boys, Gage and Glenn Halterman.

Amy and her sister, 37-year-old Tammy Slaton, struggled with their weight from the time they were children growing up with a single mother who worked a lot. During the first episode of the inaugural season of 1000-lb Sisters, Amy was too big to weigh herself with a bathroom scale, so she had to use the local junkyard’s industrial scale. Adding injury to insult, when Amy stepped on the scale, the screen revealed that she weighed 408 pounds.
After having weight loss surgery, Amy lost an amazing 125 pounds, and it turned her into a whole new woman.

In July, Reddit user r/gypsy1902 posted a photo of Amy and her sister and 1000-lb Sisters co-star, 43-year-old Amanda Halterman, posing with fans. In the photo, Amy is wearing shorts that show off a nasty bruise that spans all the way down the length of her right leg. Though it’s possible that Amy had a fall and bruised herself that way, the size of the bruise may be a sign of underlying health issues. Another Reddit user in the comment section asked, “Amy seems to bruise easily.”

She Wants Skin Removal Surgery
Losing a significant amount of weight has left Amy with loose excess skin, and the 1000-lb Sisters season 6 star has expressed interest in getting rid of it. Skin removal surgery is several separate procedures, and, as with any surgery, it comes with risks. The multiple cosmetic procedures are also extremely expensive, so, as a single mother raising two children, Amy is unlikely to splurge anytime soon.
